Puri: Body of a 18-year-old boy from Bargarh district, who drowned at Puri’s Chakratirtha Road beach on Thursday, washed ashore on Friday. The deceased was identified as Subhankar Patra of Sohela.
Prabhat Kumar Raut, additional district fire officer, said personnel conducted a search operation on Thursday from 11:30 am to 3:30 pm but failed to locate him. On Friday around 10 am, Subhankar’s body washed ashore. Upon being informed, police personnel reached the spot and recovered the body. His family was then informed.
One of Subhankar’s friends said, “I, along with 10 friends from Bargarh, visited Puri on Thursday. While we were bathing at Chakratirtha beach around 11 am, a strong wave dragged five of us into deeper waters. Lifeguards at the spot managed to rescue four, but Subhankar could not be saved.”
In the last two months, four tourists feared drowned while bathing in the sea. However, only two bodies were found.
