Youth kills parents, sister for opposing online game addiction in Odisha | Bhubaneswar News

NEW DELHI: A 21-year-old college student killed his parents and sister using stones in Odisha‘s Jagatsinghpur district on Tuesday morning as they were opposed to his addition to online games, police said on Tuesday.
The incident occurred at Jayabada Sethi Sahi within the Jagatsinghpur Police Station jurisdiction at approximately 3 AM.
According to Superintendent of Police Bhawani Sankar Udgata, the student used stones or similar hard objects to fatally assault his father, mother and sister.
Inspector-in-charge Prabhas Sahu of Jagatsinghpur Police Station stated that initial enquiries indicated that the accused, Surjyakant Sethy, was frustrated with his family members for “opposing him playing online games on his mobile phone”.
The victims were identified as Prasant Sethy alias Kalia (65), his spouse Kanaklata (62), and their daughter Rosalin (25).
The SP confirmed that Surjyakant Sethy initially concealed himself near the village before being apprehended. He also noted that the youth was believed to have psychological issues.
Local representative MLA Amarendra Das mentioned that the family had previously sought his assistance regarding a property dispute.
According to local residents, Surjyakant acknowledged his actions to them.
A police contingent, headed by the SP along with a forensic team, arrived at the location to conduct investigations, as reported by another police official.
The official further stated that the remains were transported for post-mortem analysis.
