Bhubaneswar: Burla police on Monday arrested a youth in connection with the death of Chinmayi Priyadarshini Sahoo, an alumnus of Veer Surendra Sai University of Technology (VSSUT), Burla. He was booked for abetment to suicide. The youth was identified as Pritiman Dey, 27, a friend of the deceased.
Chinmayi went missing on Feb 28, 2023, after allegedly jumping off the power channel bridge in Sambalpur following the VSSUT convocation ceremony and receiving the B.Tech degree. Her body was found on March 1, 2023.
Family members of Chinmayi alleged that she was murdered. They lodged a complaint with the local police. At that time, police clarified that she died of drowning. Later, the family members moved the Orissa high court. The case reopened recently, and police arrested Dey.
