Patna: One Manish Kumar was arrested from Patliputra area on Thursday for allegedly starting a ruckus and running away with question papers during BPSC preliminary examination at Bapu exam centre under Agamkuan police station in Patna on December 13.
Police said Manish, a native of Supaul district, who lives in the state capital to prepare for competitive exams, is one of the main accused of the December 13 ruckus during Bihar Public Service Commission‘s (BPSC) 70th Combined (Preliminary) Competitive Examination at the Kumhrar centre.
Police recovered a bundle of question papers from his flat, and also seized his cellphone.
Patna City assistant superintendent of police Atulesh Jha said the bundle of 12 question papers, with a broken seal, which went missing from the examination hall, was recovered from the accused candidate’s flat.
“During the BPSC prelims on December 13, some unknown people came and created a ruckus outside the examination centre at Kumhrar under Agamkuan police station. Rumours were spread that the paper was leaked and there were issues with distribution. People even blocked traffic and attacked govt officials and security forces. They tried to pacify the situation, but in vain. The magistrate present there filed a complaint with Agamkuan police,” Jha said, adding a special investigation team (SIT) was formed in this connection.
“They conducted a special raid based on technical evidence, identified the people, and took their details with the commission’s help. A youth in a pink T-shirt, who was seen waving the question paper at the exam centre, was identified and arrested.”
His statement has been recorded. “He claimed that he was criticising the process, but the police were investigating whether it was pre-planned or influenced by any coaching institute or group,” Jha said, adding more people involved in the ruckus were were identified. “We will take action against them. The police are continuously conducting raids to nab others involved,” the ASP said.
