Balangir: A couple, who got married just three months ago, was found hanging from a tree in a farmland near Keomal village in Balangir district on Sunday. The deceased have been identified as Akash Dharua (21) and his wife, Mahima (20).
“A police team arrived at the spot and recovered the bodies in the presence of a magistrate. The bodies were sent for autopsy. Preliminary investigations suggest the couple may have died by suicide due to personal reasons. However, the investigation is still ongoing,” said Sushanta Kumar Badhai, inspector in-charge of Saintala police station.
According to reports, the couple’s bodies were first spotted by Akash’s grandfather early monring, who then informed the police. Authorities believe the incident took place late at night.
Relatives of the deceased said that Akash married Mahima after a long-term relationship. However, financial difficulties, as Akash had no stable source of income, reportedly led to frequent quarrels between the couple.
“We have collected evidence from the scene and questioned the couple’s family members. A thorough examination of reports and statements will help us determine the exact circumstances that led to the incident,” the IIC said.
