Workers suffocate in septic tank | Patna News – Times of India


Patna: Two workers died of suffocation inside a septic tank in Barka village, Mirganj, Gopalganj district, on Saturday. The victims were identified as Ranjan Ram (25) and Pawan Mahto (22), residents of Turkaha village in Phulwaria.
Both had gone to the house of one Aslam Mian to remove the centring of a newly constructed toilet tank, an officer from Mirganj police station said, adding, “The two entered the toilet tank to remove the centring when they suffocated to death.”
Upon receiving the information, the police arrived at the scene, pulled out their bodies and sent them for post-mortem to the Sadar hospital.
Mirganj SHO Kishori Choudhary said, “Initially, Ranjan went inside, but he screamed for help immediately after entering. Pawan then went to rescue Ranjan, but he also fainted due to insufficient oxygen levels inside the tank. The house owner then informed the police.”
He added that the victims’ families were provided a relief of Rs 23,000 under the family benefit scheme and Kabir Anteyashti Yojana.
