Patna: A 29-year-old worker died in a gas cylinder blast that took place in a factory located at Shahjahanpur Daniyawan along Patna-Nalanda border late on Saturday evening, police said.
Shahjahanpur station house officer (SHO) Munna Kumar said victim Sujit Kewat, a resident of Hudari village in Karayapashurai area of Nalanda district, was a welder in the cement factory.“The gas cylinder exploded probably because of leakage, and he died on the spot. No one else was injured in this incident. The family members have been informed about the incident and the body was handed over to them after postmortem at Patna Medical College Hospital,” he said, adding the reasons for the cylinder explosion are being investigated. “The factory officials are being questioned and further action is being taken in the case.”
The explosion also triggered chaos all around on Saturday evening as workers tried to come out of the cement factory. As soon as the body was identified, a large number of villagers entered the factory and created a huge ruckus, demanding compensation for the dependents of the deceased.
On getting information about the incident, Shahjahanpur SHO Kumar and additional station in-charge Navneet Kumar, besides a team from Karayparsurai police station reached the factory. They pacified the protestors and took the body in their custody.
