Won’t let Mumbai turn into Adani city, will scrap Dharavi slum redevelopment project tender after coming to power: Uddhav Thackeray | Mumbai News – Times of India

MUMBAI: Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray announced on Saturday that the tender awarded to Gautam Adani‘s firm for the Dharavi slum redevelopment project will be scrapped if his party comes to power in Maharashtra.
Thackeray emphasized that residents and businesses in Dharavi should not be displaced and asserted that those living there must receive 500 square feet houses within the locality.
“We will scrap Dharavi slum redevelopment project tender after coming to power. The government should give an answer as to why it should not be scrapped now itself. We will not allow Mumbai to be turned into Adani city,” Thackeray said at a press conference.
Thackeray claimed that additional concessions, not specified in the contract, had been extended to the Adani Group for the redevelopment of Dharavi, one of the world’s densest urban areas. He added that his party would not provide such extra concessions.
“We will not give additional concessions. We will see what is good for residents of Dharavi and if need arises we will issue a fresh tender,” Thackeray asserted.
The Shiv Sena (UBT) is a part of the opposition coalition Maha Vikas Aghadi, which includes the Congress and the Sharad Pawar-led Nationalist Congress Party (SP).
Maharashtra assembly polls are anticipated to be held in October.
