Women from self-help groups to distribute property tax bills in Navi Mumbai

Navi Mumbai: Starting May 23, 2025, Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation commenced home delivery of property tax bills for the financial year 2025-26 and the collection of information about property holders. This initiative utilises women from registered self-help groups in the city and is part of the women empowerment programme of the civic body. The civic administration issued temporary identification cards to these women representatives, who will visit the homes of property tax holders for timely delivery of tax bills. They will cover around 3.5 lakh homes every month.Municipal commissioner and administrator Kailas Shinde has instructed that these women should receive unhindered entry to all residences in private and govt societies, colonies, and housing complexes. Property owners or tenants are requested to provide complete and accurate details, including the owner’s full name, active mobile number, and email address, to these representatives for digital record-keeping, said Shinde. The appointed women from registered self-help groups will serve as part-time municipal corporation representatives, handling both bill distribution and information collection from property holders. The corporation requests full support for these representatives in carrying out their duties without any hassles. Earlier, residents complained about the non-delivery of property tax bills on time, leading to delays in payment and inviting late payment charges.“Our experience in getting the bills was bad, and we hope to receive timely bills through the women’s groups,” said a resident, Kiran Patil.Property owners or their tenants need to furnish the owner’s complete name, current mobile number, and email address to the self-help group members. This data will be integrated into the Property Tax Department’s digital system, enabling future tax bills, notices, and payment reminders to be sent directly to mobile devices. Citizens are urged to extend courteous treatment to these women representatives. The Municipal Corporation implemented online payment collection systems, allowing property owners to complete transactions from home without visiting municipal offices. Shinde appeals to citizens to support this digitalisation initiative by providing necessary information to the self-help group representatives, enabling improved service delivery to residents.
