Women allotted indigenous products stall at Sangam ghat | Prayagraj News

Prayagraj: To make women self-reliant and empowered, the state govt has planned to create self-employment opportunities for women at the ghats of holy rivers, beginning from the ghats of Sangam in Prayagraj.Officials said that the state govt is continuously encouraging the production of indigenous and eco-friendly products along with efforts to make women self-reliant across the state. The products of the women self-help groups formed by the state govt are now making a splash at the Sangam ghat. District Urban Development Agency (DUDA) project officer (Prayagraj), Pratibha Srivastava, said, “For the first time, outlets are being allotted to women of self-help groups (SHGs) at Sangam Nose by the Mela Authority. The first outlet allotted to women has been opened where cow dung products made by women will be sold. This is the first time that such temporary outlets have been allotted to women by the Mela authority at Sangam. Similar outlets will be given to the women of the SHGs on other ghats of the Ganga.”The first outlet of DUDA’s self-help group at Sangam Nose has been given to Vartika SHG. Group in-charge Vartika Dwivedi said, “There are 26 groups in their cluster having 260 women. All of them are making products from cow dung which are used daily on the ghats in puja and rituals. Havan sticks made by mixing cow dung and havan samagri instead of wood are mostly used at the ghats. Apart from being holy, it is also eco-friendly. Besides, women also make incense sticks from flowers and bel leaves used in temples. The women of the group are also preparing idols of gods and goddesses from cow dung. The packaging of all these products is also done by these women themselves.”On Tuesdays, Saturdays, and special festivals, the sale of these products rises and sometimes the products fall short.
