Mumbai: The Borivli police have arrested an individual for torching a 34-year-old woman’s house over a trivial dispute about sitting on a chair in the lane. The accused has been identified as Vishal Udamle.
The torching incident occurred early on April 1, police said. The complainant works as a maid and lives in Gorai.
Around 11 pm on March 31, a dispute broke out between Udamle and the woman about sitting on a chair in the lane. Police said Udamle hurled expletives and obscene remarks at the woman. He also ran towards her, armed with a stone. A few hours later, around 2.30 am on April 1, Udamle brought petrol and doused it on the woman’s house. He then torched the locked, vacant house, after threatening neighbours with dire consequences.
Later, the woman approached the police and lodged a complaint against Udamle who was arrested on charges of molestation, intimidation and mischief by fire under the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita.
