Woman throws stepsons into well, one dies | Patna News – Times of India

Patna: A woman was on Wednesday arrested for allegedly throwing two minor boys into a well at Kanhauli village under Bihta police station area of Patna on Tuesday evening. One of the kids, Arnav Kumar (7) was declared dead, while another Sammi Kumar (5) was undergoing treatment at a hospital. The police have recorded the statement of Sammi and also arrested mother of the woman, who was involved in the crime.
According to police, the incident took place following a quarrel over a property dispute and some domestic issues between Sharda Kumari, the second wife of Arun Thakur, and his first wife, Rajni Devi. In a fit of rage, Sharda threw both the kids of Rajni into a well, about 700-metres away from their house with the intention of killing them.
Raj Kumar Pandey, SHO of Bihta police station, said Arun had married Sharda, a mother of a 14-year-old girl, in 2021, and was living with them at a rented accommodation at Kanhauli. “Recently, he sold his land and gave the money to his first wife. “To inherit his property, the second wife made a plan with her mother to kill Arun’s two sons from his first marriage. On Tuesday evening, their stepsister took Arnav and Sammi along with her to the orchard on the pretext of plucking mangoes there. Sharda and her mother, who were already present at the orchard, threw both the kids into the well,” he said.
Pandey further said Rajni, who lives in Sadisopur village adjacent to Kanhauli searched for her sons but could not find them. On Wednesday morning, Sammi managed to come out of the well and called for help. Some locals pulled them out, but his brother Arnav succumbed to his injuries before reaching the hospital.
