Woman stabbed to death by siblings over property dispute | Bhubaneswar News

Sambalpur: A 40-year-old woman was allegedly stabbed to death by her siblings after an argument during the funeral of their uncle at Majhipada in Sambalpur district on Sunday. Police said the murder was the fallout of a property dispute. The deceased was identified as Lina Sahu. Her elder sister, Pushpanjali Sahu (45), and younger brother, Golaka Sahu (35), were arrested for the murder.Kuchinda SDPO Pradeep Kumar Dash said, “The girl was a divorcee and was working at a mall in Sambalpur town. She went to Bamra on Sunday to attend the funeral of her uncle. She had a heated argument with her elder sister and younger brother over the property of her father, following which the accused attacked her with a knife. She collapsed on the spot and died. We have arrested her siblings and seized the knife. The body will be handed over to the family after post- mortem.“The accused are unmarried and stay with their parents.Police sources said the deceased had filed a case seeking a share of the land her father owned so that she could build her own house. She had even asked for a share of the money her family had received after selling a portion of the land. As the matter was in court and the deceased did not have good relations with her siblings, she stopped going to her paternal home. However, her cousins had called her to attend the post-death rituals of her uncle, whose family lived in an adjacent house.Police are interrogating the parents and eyewitnesses for further investigation.
