Woman posing as AIIMS-Delhi doctor held | Patna News – Times of India
Patna: A woman, impersonating as a doctor of cardiology department of AIIMS-Delhi and claiming that she had cleared UPSC’s civil services examination, was arrested on Saturday for allegedly duping a senior IT professional to steal gold ornaments from his family here on pretext of marriage.
According to police, the woman identified as Janvi Singh alias Tanu Priya alias Thakur Princy Singh, a resident of Muzaffarpur district, befriended an IT professsional Ravi Ranjan, of Ganga Vihar under Beur police station area in Patna, by introducing herself as a doctor, on a social media platform about six months back.
After few rounds of conversation, they become close, said police. “Janvi told Ravi that she had cleared the civil services exam conducted by the UPSC and shared a fake clipping of a lesser-known newspaper. In June, Ravi went to Delhi to meet her, where Janvi proposed him for marriage. Ravi took the girl to Patna and introduced her to his family. With the consent of his family, the engagement was fixed on July 26,” said the police.
DSP-cum-SHO of Beur police station, Nishant Gaurav told TOI that Janvi came to Patna on July 13 and she even participated in a puja organized on July 15 before their engagement. “She was living with Ravi’s family in his house. Only July 17, she accused his aunt of stealing her gold jewellery and registered a complaint with Beur police station,” he said.
Gaurav said on July 26, Ravi informed the police that the identity of the woman, with whom he was going to get engaged, was suspicious and she was allegedly trying to take away jewellery and valuables from his home. “The woman was taken into police custody on Friday for questioning and several documents were recovered from her, including a newspaper clipping and ID card of AIIMS-Delhi. During verification, all the documents were found fake,” he said.
Janvi was forwarded to jail on Saturday.
