Woman moves HC to retrieve pet dog, fined 1k for wasting court’s time | Bhubaneswar News

Cuttack: Orissa high court on Tuesday imposed a fine of Rs 1,000 on a 52-year-old woman for “unnecessarily wasting the court’s time” with a petition seeking intervention to recover her pet dog.
The petitioner had approached the court to retrieve her three-year-old dog, Beauty, which was taken away by her daughter-in-law during a house seizure on Jan 20, 2025. The seizure followed a dowry harassment case filed at Cuttack’s Mahila Police Station.
Justice S K Panigrahi ordered the fine amount to be deposited with Orissa High Court Bar Association Welfare Fund within 10 days. The court dismissed the petition after her counsel, Byomakesh Tripathy, requested permission to withdraw it.
Prior to approaching the high court, the petitioner had filed a representation with the member secretary, State Animal Welfare Board, seeking the dog’s return.
“The petitioner is at liberty to approach the appropriate authority for redressal of her grievance,” Justice Panigrahi stated in his order.TNN
