Patna: A woman was allegedly killed over her daughter’s affair with a youth of the village within the jurisdiction of Murliganj police station area in Madhepura district.
The incident came to light when her body was found hanging from a tree on Monday morning. Her daughter had been missing from her home since Sunday. The matter is being investigated by the police.
The woman’s daughter had been in a relationship with a boy of the same village for some time and she had been missing since Sunday evening.The deceased’s husband and her son resided in another state, where they were engaged as workers, while the woman stayed with her daughter-in-law in the village.
Murliganj SHO, Manju Kumari, said that according to the statement given by the daughter-in-law, her mother-in-law went to sleep inside her room after taking dinner on Sunday night. When she woke up on Monday morning, some local villagers informed her that her mother-in-law’s body was hanging from a tree near their house.
“The girl was having an affair with a youth of the same village. The youth’s family are influential people of the village. When the girl was found nowhere in the house on Sunday evening, her mother went to the youth’s home and requested his family to return her daughter. However, she was abused and threatened by them after which she returned home,” the SHO said, adding that the girl is suspected to have left her home to marry the youth.
The SHO said that the police are investigating the case and conducting raids to apprehend the youth and his family members to gather some clues about the missing girl.
