Patna: A married woman was allegedly killed by her husband and in-laws for dowry in Shahpur locality of Danapur in Patna district on Saturday. The deceased was identified as Suman Devi (20), wife of Dilip Kumar. Her brother, Kush Kumar, has filed a complaint against her in-laws and husband in this connection at Shahpur police station.
“My sister (Suman) was married to Dilip in May 2022.We had given all household items and cash to her in-laws during their wedding. But her husband and his family continued to harass her for more money and a motorcycle. She was regularly beaten and tortured by them,” alleged Kush in the complaint. However, her husband and in-laws claimed that Suman committed suicide.
Shahpur SHO, Manish Kumar Anand, said Suman’s brother-in-law called Kush on Saturday morning and informed him that Suman was quarrelling with her husband. “Twenty minutes later, he called again and said that Suman had committed suicide by hanging herself. However, when Kush and his family reached the house, they did not find her body. Later, the body was found near the in-law’s house,” the SHO said.
“Suman’s mother-in-law and brother-in-law have been detained for interrogation on the basis of FIR lodged by victim’s brother,” the SHO added.
