Woman gets life term for murder | Bhubaneswar News

Berhampur: District and sessions judge court here on Wednesday sentenced a 48-year-old woman to life imprisonment for killing of a 38-year-old mentally ill woman at Choudhury Tikarpada in Ganjam district over two years ago.
Judge Rupashree Choudhury awarded life imprisonment to Rubita Adhikari for throttling Bishnupriya Sahu (38) to death on Jan 8, 2023.
“The court pronounced the judgment after recording the statements of 17 witnesses, including police and medical reports,” said Trilochan Parida, public prosecutor. The convict was in jail since her arrest, he said.
The court, however, acquitted another accused due to lack of evidence, he added.
Sources said the convict, who is married, resided in Bhubaneswar. She was allegedly having an affair with a man in her village and came there very frequently. On Jan 8, 2023, she came to the village to attend a feast. She also met her lover on that night, and they were seen by the deceased. Fearing she might disclose their relationship, the convict throttled her to death. Two days after the murder, police registered a case and arrested the woman and her lover.
