Bhubaneswar: A 26-year-old woman, employed in an IT company here, was found dead under suspicious circumstances outside a city hotel early on Thursday, prompting police to launch a murder investigation.The woman’s family has accused her live-in partner, who works as a driver, of being responsible for her death.According to police sources, the deceased and her partner had been residing at the hotel for several months. The incident occurred following a reported quarrel between the couple on Wednesday night, after which they were seen heading to the building’s rooftop. The woman’s body was later discovered in a drain outside the hotel’s premises.“My daughter and the man, who had plans to marry her, were living together in the hotel. He called to inform me that she had accidentally fallen from the terrace, but I strongly suspect he pushed her to death,” said the mother of the deceased woman, who was working in the operations wing of the IT company. The victim’s mother has filed a formal complaint at the Khandagiri police station.Assistant commissioner of police (Zone-III) Tapas Chandra Pradhan confirmed that police authorities are investigating the murder allegation. “We have registered a murder case based on the mother’s complaint and are thoroughly verifying all aspects of the incident,” he said.Police officials indicated that the murder charges could be modified depending on the findings of their investigation at a later stage. Police have detained the deceased’s boyfriend for questioning and are examining CCTV footage from the hotel. Investigators are also analysing phone records and social media communications between the couple to establish the sequence of events leading to the tragedy.A hotel employee, speaking on condition of anonymity, revealed that the couple had rented a room about three months ago and were known to have frequent arguments.
