Woman falls through drain opening onto MRTS pillar, rescued | Chennai News – Times of India

Chennai: A 44-year-old woman, walking along MRTS railway line, which is off-limits to the public, during the late night hours on Friday, accidentally slipped through a rainwater drainage opening from the tracks and landed on a 30-foot-high pillar beneath.The woman who cried for help after getting stuck above the ‘T’ pillar beneath the railway tracks, was rescued by fire and rescue personnel. The woman, whose identity has not been disclosed, reportedly quarrelled with her husband earlier that evening and left home in distress.At around 9.15pm, passersby heard her cry for help and alerted the fire control room. A rescue team from Mylapore fire station, led by station fire officer R Arockiasamy, rushed to the scene and rescued the woman using a rope chair-knot method.“The woman was in a state of panic and trauma when we reached her,” said SFO Arockiasamy. “Fortunately, she did not fall further from the pillar, which could have been fatal,” he added.The rescue operation was completed within 15 minutes, and the woman was taken to Govt Royapettah Hospital for treatment.
