Woman Dies Following Violent Gold Chain Snatching Incident in Bhubaneswar |
Bhubaneswar: Days after a 45-year-old woman was thrown off a two-wheeler by miscreants trying to snatch her gold chain, she died of head injury in a private hospital in the city.
On Monday, U Bishnu Patra of Botanda village under Airfield police station limits was travelling with her husband on the Jatni Road towards Harirajpur to pay obeisance to Lord Shiva at the Somnath Temple. Around 1pm, they were attacked by bike-borne miscreants.
“Two people on a motorcycle suddenly attacked my wife from behind in an attempt to snatch her gold chain,” said U Pratap Patra (48), the deceased’s husband.
Pratap said his wife fell from the bike following the attack and suffered injury on her head. “Even as she lay on the road, they assaulted her and snatched the gold chain from her neck,” Pratap said. The gold chain weighed around 35 grams.
Pratap, who also fell from the bike during the incident, took a bleeding Bishnu to Capital Hospital. From there, she was shifted to a private hospital for better treatment. Bishnu died on Wednesday evening while undergoing treatment. The couple has two sons and a daughter.
Police have registered a murder case against the miscreants and launched an investigation. “The miscreants attacked the woman for snatching after finding the road deserted. We are in the process of identifying the miscreants involved in the case. Investigation is underway,” said Sashikanta Rout, inspector-in-charge, Airfield police station.
A special team has been formed to nab the culprits. The team visited the crime spot and checked the footage from CCTV cameras installed along Jatni Road to get some clues regarding the assailants. Family members of the deceased also asked several people along Jatni Road about the miscreants, but could not get any information.
