Sasaram: A woman, Asha Devi, 45, was beaten to death by her neighbours over a dispute of drain water at Jatan Bigaha village under the Akodhigola police station area in Rohtas district, late on Wednesday night.
SHO, Akodhigola police station, Chandra Shekhar Sharma, said a verbal duel started between two groups over drain water, which escalated into a violence, with both sides, including women, attacking each other using weapons. Asha was allegedly beaten to death with sticks by rival group members and she succumbed to her injuries on the spot, he said. Police sent the body to Sadar Hospital, Sasaram for postmortem.
The SHO said out of the seven named accused in the case, three were arrested and sent to jail. “Efforts are underway to apprehend the remaining accused. Additional police force has been deployed at the village as a precautionary measure due to the prevailing tension,” he said.
Based on a written complaint by the deceased’s husband, Kamlesh Singh, an FIR was filed against seven named accused, he said.
