Windows Outage: Windows outage grounds 6 flights at city airport | Bhubaneswar News

Bhubaneswar: The global outage in computers running Microsoft Windows led to cancellation of six IndiGo flights from Bhubaneswar airport on Friday, officials said.
All check-in computers went blank due to crashes caused by a flawed software update at Biju Patnaik International Airport here on Friday leading to huge rush and confusion among passengers.Boarding passes were issued manually which delayed boarding of many flights.

Flights from Bhubaneswar to Chennai, Mumbai, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Bengaluru and Ahmedabad were cancelled as the outage led to an inordinate delay in screening passengers at check-in counters and allow them through security checks. The airport sees 46 flight arrivals and an equal number of departures daily. Most of the flights were cancelled in the afternoon.
“Getting ticket online and cancelling was not a problem. But the check-in counters of different airlines didn’t function at all. Check-in was done manually but it proved cumbersome. IndiGo cancelled six flights. Airport and air traffic control (ATC) towers functioned normally,” said airport director Prasanna Pradhan.
He said flights started arriving late after 10.30 am. This made the departing passengers realise the outage could prevent them from boarding the flight. “Many cancelled their tickets before the airlines announced cancellations. But the airlines announced cancellation of flights at right time. If a flight is announced cancelled, it will be treated as in-transit and hence passengers may be provided with accommodation,” Pradhan added.
