Widow awaits death assistance, labour min assures help

Keonjhar: Subhadra Munda, a tribal widow from Kendua village, is yet to receive the assistance of Rs 2.05 lakh that was awarded to her by CM Mohan Majhi three months back for her husband’s death. After waiting for days, she approached the labour minister, who has assured her of expediting the payment while asking the Keonjhar district collector and labour department to probe the delay.
The assistance, meant as relief following the death of her husband Sagar Munda, a construction worker, was presented on Sept 22, marking the govt’s 100-day milestone. Despite completing necessary paperworks, Subhadra is yet to receive the promised financial aid.
“Failed to get the assistance money despite several visits to the labour office in Keonjhar. I went to Bhubaneswar and approached labour minister Ganesh Ram Singkhuntia on Dec 15. The minister heard my problem and directed the district collector and labour department to expedite the payment and investigate the reason behind the delay,” Subhadra said.
District labour officer Surya Narayan Mali assured that all paperworks have been completed, and “the amount will be paid immediately”.
