Tourist from West Bengal drowns in Puri

Bhubaneswar: A tourist from West Bengal drowned while bathing in the sea at Puri on Wednesday.
The incident occurred around 12.30 pm near Swargadwar beach.
The deceased, Sushant Adhikari from Nityanandapur in Bankura, had come to Puri with his family for a holiday.
According to eyewitnesses, Adhikari, who was swimming, was suddenly pulled into deeper waters by the strong currents.
Despite efforts by local lifeguards who rushed to rescue him, Adhikari was already unconscious by the time they could pull him ashore. Sources said the current was exceptionally strong due to the new moon, which often creates higher tides and more powerful waves.
“We tried our best to save him, but the force of the water was overwhelming,” said a lifeguard. Adhikari was taken to the Puri district headquarters hospital, where he was declared brought dead.TNN
