Wedding burglar at city hotel caught in Puri; search for another accused on | Bhubaneswar News
Bhubaneswar: A 20-year-old man from Madhya Pradesh, who was arrested on Monday on charges of stealing wedding gifts from a beachfront hotel in Puri, was allegedly involved in a similar theft at a posh hotel here on Sunday, police said on Tuesday.
Police identified the accused as Ritesh Sisodia, a resident of Kadia village in Rajgarh district of MP. Along with his associate, who remains at large, Sisodia entered the hotel situated near Nalco Chowk under Maitree Vihar police station limits and stole presents that included gold ornaments valued at more than Rs 10 lakh and Rs 2 lakh cash.
Police said that after the theft in Bhubaneswar on Sunday afternoon, Sisodia and his friend fled to Puri. That night, private security guards at the beachfront hotel under Puri’s Baliapanda police station caught Sisodia while he was attempting to steal a suitcase during a wedding reception.
After getting information from Puri police, cops from Bhubaneswar visited Baliapanda police station to interrogate Sisodia. They confirmed his involvement in the wedding thefts at Bhubaneswar hotel by comparing his appearance with the CCTV footage.
DCP Pinak Mishra said they would request Sisodia’s custody from Puri police. “We will interrogate him to trace his associate,” Mishra said. Police suspect his involvement in several other thefts in different places in the state.
