BENGALURU: The Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) on Thursday announced financial assistance of Rs 10 lakh each for the families of the 11 fans who lost their lives in the stampede outside Bengaluru’s M Chinnaswamy Stadium.The tragic incident occurred during the team’s IPL victory celebration, which saw an overwhelming turnout of fans. The sudden surge of the crowd led to chaos and a stampede that claimed multiple lives and left several others injured.“The unfortunate incident in Bengaluru yesterday has caused a lot of anguish and pain to the RCB family. As a mark of respect and a gesture of solidarity, RCB has announced a financial support of INR 10 lakh to each of the eleven families of the deceased. In addition, a fund called RCB Cares is also being created to support fans injured in this tragic incident. Our fans will always remain at the heart of everything that we do. We remain united in grief,” posts Royal Challengers Bengaluru on X.Earlier, Karnataka BJP President BY Vijayendra also urged that the RCB owners should provide compensation to the victims.“When someone died due to an elephant attack in Kerala, you gave Rs 25 lakh — then for the people of our state who lost their lives, Rs 50 lakh compensation must be given. The RCB owners must also provide compensation. The situation has come to a point where the chief minister, deputy chief ministers, and the Home Minister must resign,” BY Vijayendra said.Compensation announcedChief minister Siddaramaiah announced financial assistance of Rs 10 lakh to the families of those killed and free medical care for the injured.“A major tragedy occurred during the victory celebrations. It happened near the Chinnaswamy Stadium. The government has announced a compensation of Rs 10 lakh for the deceased. The government will provide free treatment to the injured,” he said.“11 died in the stampede. This tragedy should not have happened. The government expresses deep sorrow over this incident,” he added.The chief minister also confirmed that a magisterial inquiry had been ordered into the incident, with a report expected in 15 days.“I don’t want to defend this incident. Our government will not do politics on this. I have ordered a magisterial inquiry and given 15 days’ time.People even broke the gates of the stadium. There was a stampede. No one expected such a huge crowd. The stadium has a capacity of only 35,000 people, but 2-3 lakh people came,” Siddaramaiah said.
