Water Supply: Villagers block road demanding water supply | Bhubaneswar News
Berhampur: Residents of Palaspur in Ganjam district’s Sanakhemundi block on Monday staged a four-hour-long blockade on Aska-Digapahandi road by placing empty pitchers and buckets, demanding immediate water supply to the village.
“The two tubewells in the village have become defunct. Thus, the women are forced to walk for about a kilometre and stand in queues in the scorching heat to fetch a bucket of water from a well.We want a permanent solution to the water supply problem,” an agitator said.
The villagers called off their protest after Sanakhemundi block development officer (BDO) and the Patapur police assured them to install two tubewells in the village soon.
Jitendra Mishra, the BDO, said, “Water will be supplied through tankers till the tubewells are installed.” A mega scheme has been taken up by the rural water supply and sanitation department to supply water in every household, he added.
