Water pressure eases on Birpur, V’nagar barrages

Patna: Pressure of water on the Valmikinagar and Birpur barrages across the Gandak and Kosi rivers, respectively, eased on Monday, as the water discharge through them drastically fell, water resources department (WRD) flood bulletin said. While the level of water discharge through Valmikinagar barrage was 4.40 lakh cusecs on Sunday afternoon, it fell to 2.54 lakh cusecs on Monday.
Similarly, the water discharge through the Birpur barrage had gained the high of 3.93 lakh cusecs on Sunday, which was reduced to 2.25 lakh cusecs on Monday afternoon.
However, Bagmati, Mahananda and Parman rivers were flowing slightly above the danger level all along their course. In contrast, Gandak river was also flowing slightly above the red mark at Khadda and Dumariaghat. Kosi river was above the danger level only at Baltara in Khagaria district and Kamla Balan at Jainagar and Jhanjharpur.
The Central Water Commission (CWC) bulletin said that the rainfall in most of the districts was light on Monday, and would be the same on Tuesday. However, the catchment areas of the river Kosi in Nepal would receive rainfall in the range of 19 mm to 63 mm on Tuesday.
