In response to the forecast of moderate to heavy rains and a high tide in Mumbai and its surrounding areas, three teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have been deployed to handle any potential situations that may arise.
According to the civic body’s Automatic Weather Stations (AWS) located throughout the city, several areas in Mumbai received over 200m of rainfall in the 24 hours leading up to 8am, with some locations experiencing up to 34 mm of rainfall in just one hour between 6am and 7am.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted “moderate to heavy rain in the city and suburbs” for the next 24 hours starting 8am on Monday, according to the BMC.
Local train services between Kalyan and Thakurli stations were briefly disrupted on Monday morning during rush hour due to intense rainfall, causing delays.
The previous day, heavy downpours pounded Mumbai and its suburbs, inundating roads in many areas, diverting flights, and briefly affecting local train traffic between Dadar and Matunga stations.
