Waste-to-energy plants in Kovai, Madurai corpns | Chennai News – The Times of India

Chennai: The municipal administration and water supply department will set up waste-to-energy plants in Madurai and Coimbatore districts, similar to ones in Chennai, said Minister KN Nehru.
He was responding to AIADMK MLA VV Rajan Chellappa, who flagged garbage dumping along the Madurai-Chennai highway.
“Local bodies around Madurai were dumping waste along the Chennai-Madurai highway and are burning it daily. This was causing pollution too,” he said.
Nehru said these local bodies were added to Madurai corporation only recently, and a waste-to-energy plant would come up in the two corporations, similar to Chennai, to address waste management. TNN
