Warned to stay away from his niece, man beheaded by 17-year-old student in Bhubaneshwar


BHUBANESWAR: A 17-year-old student beheaded a man with a sword for objecting to his interest in the latter’s niece. The incident took place late on Wednesday at Raghunathpur near Dumduma under Khandagiri police station limits in the city.
The deceased, Jaga Mallick (32), was a resident of Raghunathpur.
Sources said the accused was in love with the victim’s niece.Despite being warned by Jaga to stay away from her, the Plus II student refused to listen and instead, resolved to kill Jaga.
According to the police, the accused attacked Mallick while he was returning home on his motorcycle. Police said the accused lay in wait for the victim in a secluded place.
When Mallick tried to run away, the minor gave chase and struck him from behind with the sword, beheading him. Police have got hold of the CCTV footage in the area.
Police have arrested the accused and another person and detained four others in the case. “They were hiding in Dumduma. We caught them and have launched a probe,” said Avimanyu Das, IIC, Khandagiri police station.
Upon receiving information, Khandagiri police went to the spot and transported the body to Capital Hospital for post-mortem examination. “Prima facie it is believed that the accused committed the crime in rage. He is said to be in love with the deceased’s niece. Jaga was opposed to it. We are interrogating the accused to get more information,” Das said.
Jaga’s wife told the media that she rang her husband’s mobile phone several times as he didn’t return home on time. When she went looking for him, she saw him lying in a pool of blood. “We need justice,” she said.
