Bhubaneswar: BJP on Saturday criticised BJD for levelling allegations in connection with the ‘illegal’ detention of Bishal Das, son of former minister Naba Kisore Das and brother of former Jharsuguda MLA Dipali Das.
BJD spokesperson Sasmit Patra alleged here that the BJP is using police as its employees. “Police have become political agents of the BJP. Our party president has formed a fact-finding team to visit Jharsuguda to investigate the illegal detention of Bishal and others,” he added.
Dipali also alleged the police were working in favour of BJP. “Why was Bishal detained by the police for so long? Police could not give satisfactory answers,” she added.
BJP MLA Babu Singh countered the BJD’s allegations and said, “We strongly condemn the baseless statements made by BJD spokesperson Sasmit Patra and former legislator Dipali Das against the BJP.”
Singh said the people of Jharsuguda and Odisha are well aware of who murdered democracy. “During BJD’s rule, they used to say ‘the law will take its course’, but that was not the case then. Now, when the law is taking its course, BJD is opposing it,” he added.
He said sarpanches and panchayat members who signed the no-confidence proposal were not present in their area for four months. “Who forcibly took them away? On Gandhi Jayanti in Oct, it is customary to hold a gram sabha. Those who signed the no-confidence proposal were not present that day. Therefore, strict action should be taken against those who took the sarpanches and panchayat members. After democracy, there is now an attempt to murder the constitutional system,” he added.
