Waqf Bill being brought to loot Muslim properties, says Asaduddin Owaisi | Hyderabad News

Hyderabad: AIMIM president and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi on Saturday termed the Waqf (Amendment) Bill as “looters (amendment) law”, as he accused BJP and RSS of planning to loot the waqf properties of Muslims.
The Waqf (Amendment) Bill violates several provisions of the Constitution, including Articles 14, 25, 26, and 29. “The BJP-led NDA govt is doing the work of looters. They want to snatch away waqf properties. It should not be called Waqf (Amendment) Bill but ‘looters (amendment) law’,” Owaisi told reporters here.
On Union home minister Amit Shah‘s reported remarks on 123 properties in New Delhi, Owaisi said the Sachar Committee said the properties belonged to the waqf and its market value was 3,000 crore in 2007. The present value of these properties could be at least 10,000 crore.
“Amit Shah said one cannot go to the court once the waqf tribunal gives a ruling. He is lying and misleading our Hindu brethren. There are several tribunals, including the income tax tribunal and railway claims tribunal, and review petitions can be filed against its judgments in high court,” the AIMIM president said.
Amit Shah said on Friday that the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, which was referred to a joint parliamentary committee (JPC) in Aug 2024, would be reintroduced in the current session of Parliament.
“If the bill is passed in the Lok Sabha, Muslims will not forgive N Chandrababu Naidu, Nitish Kumar, and other allies. BJP does not have a majority in the Lok Sabha and Prime Minister Narendra Modi is running the govt with the help of allies. The bill cannot be passed in the Lower House if important allies do not support it,” he added.
The Hyderabad MP said when an individual donates his personal property to waqf, Allah becomes the owner of it. “When Hindus donate their properties to a temple, the presiding deity becomes the owner. BJP is trying to pass a bill which gravely violates several provisions of the Constitution. Some leaders are saying anyone who has a problem can go to court. Then, why should such a bill be brought, which would be prone to judicial review?” Owaisi questioned.
