Voters complain missing of their names from voters’ list | Bhubaneswar News

Bhubaneswar: Several voters from the capital city, which is going for polls on May 25, complained that they do not find names of their or their kin on the voters’ list. They fear that they may not cast their votes on the polling day due to this problem.
A filmmaker and businessman Akshay Kumar Parija on social media platform X wrote that he could not find his name on voters’ list.“I have been paying income tax for the last 15 years and other taxes for the last 16 years. But my name has vanished from voters’ list though I possess PAN card and Aadhaar card,” read the post.
He also sought help to fix this problem. “Can anyone help me vote on May 25 in Ekamra Bhubaneswar? I do not wish to be deprived of my sacred right to vote in the largest democracy in the world,” he added.
A senior doctor Sanatan Tripathy from Kanan Vihar in Patia area of the city felt unhappy after not finding the name of his wife Gayatri on the list. “We have been exercising our franchises as responsible citizens. When I checked her voter ID card number on the Voters’ Services Portal of the Election Commission of India (ECI), I could not find her details. We did not expect this,” he added.
Tripathy said he never imagined that her name could be deleted from voters’ lists. “I also checked the electoral roll; there I found my name but not her. I do not know whether she can cast vote on Saturday or not,” he added.
Some people complained that names of members from one family are not found in a single polling booth. Some of them have to travel to nearby booths to cast their votes. They are not happy with this goof-up. “Lots of complaints come that the family has been divided into many polling booths causing extreme difficulties in arranging transport,” said Pramod Chandra Patnaik, a voter on X.
In 2019 also, people had complained about such type of issues on the day of polling in Bhubaneswar.
N Thirumala Naik, additional CEO, Odisha, said voters can cast their votes if their names are found in the voters’ list. “Nothing can be done at this moment if a voter does not have his/her name on the voters’ list. There has been ample time to add or delete their names after publication of the draft electoral roll and final electoral roll. We have been sensitizing people on this too,” he added.
