Virtual Reality: Virtual view of booths for first-time voters in Koraput | Bhubaneswar News
Koraput: In a move to familiarise first-time voters with the polling booth experience, the Koraput administration has unveiled virtual reality (VR) headsets as part of the Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) initiative.
“The VR headsets provide a detailed simulation of the polling process, from a voter’s entry to guiding them through the voting process on electronic voting machines (EVMs) and marking their finger with indelible ink,” said district election officer-cum-collector (Koraput), Keerthi Vasan V.
A comprehensive visual presentation is offered through the VR set to enhance understanding, he added.
The VR headset allows users to feel as though they are physically present in the simulated environment. Under the direct supervision of the collector, the district technical team has developed seven VR headsets for the purpose.
Previously, the Koraput administration had organised various engagement activities like trekking at Deomali, cycle rallies, walkathons and art competitions to foster participation in the electoral process across all age groups.
Koraput district, which is a part of both Koraput and Nabarangpur Lok Sabha constituencies, comprises five assembly seats with 69,091 registered voters and 1,158 polling booths. Voting in Koraput is scheduled for May 13.
On Saturday, the Koraput administration commenced the postal ballot system aimed at facilitating voting for senior citizens and persons with disabilities (PwDs). Officials said at least 600 voters aged over 85 years and PwDs with 40% benchmark disabilities in the district have opted for home voting.
For the next two days from Saturday, polling officials will visit voters at their homes with ballot papers. “Electors will receive two ballot papers, one each for the Lok Sabha and assembly elections, to cast their votes from home,” the collector said.
