MUMBAI: A video of cash being distributed to voters at Vikramgad, allegedly by the BJP, a day before the elections on May 20, has gone viral. Vikramgad falls in the Palghar Lok Sabha constituency that recorded 63.91% voter turnout.
Sitting MLA Sunil Bhusara from the NCP (SP) has complained to the Palghar district collector. The BJP and UBT Sena candidates Dr Hemant Savara and Bharti Kamdi respectively, are pitting against each other in this scheduled tribe seat.
The video that went viral on Wednesday was reportedly shot a day before the elections.In the video, a person is seen giving Rs 500 to those whose names are in the electoral list. The person, yet unidentified, is heard telling people to vote for the ‘lotus’ symbol.
Bhusara said that the origin of the video has been established and it is not doctored. He said the Election Commission of India should take necessary action after examining the video. The NCP (SP) is an alliance in the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA). Vikramgad, one of the six assembly segments has over three lakh voters recorded more than 71% polling.
