Vimsar: Vimsar Fined ₹11l For Flouting Rules | Bhubaneswar News
Bhubaneswar: Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) has imposed a fine of Rs 11.22 lakh on Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (Vimsar), Burla, for violating standards and rules relating to biomedical waste management notified under Environment Protection Act, 1986.
The common biomedical waste treatment facility (CBTWF) operated by Vimsar was inspected by CPCB on Aug 29 last year.Based on the inspection, the board issued a showcause notice under Section 5 of the Act against the hospital on Apr 5 this year for non-compliance.
According to CPCB, Vimsar’s secondary combustion chamber of the incinerator was not upgraded as required under the Biomedical Waste Management Rules, 2016, among other issues.
In response to the showcause notice, Vimsar submitted its reply on May 1, where it requested two weeks to address the issues completely. On May 29, CPCB again directed Vimsar to submit a time-bound action plan and action taken report with respect to all the board’s directions along with supporting documents and photographs within 15 days. However, the board did not get any response from Vimsar.
