Vimsar student alleges ragging by seniors | Bhubaneswar News
Sambalpur: A second-year MBBS student at VSS Institute of Medical Science and Research (Vimsar) was allegedly ragged by two third-year students, prompting the institution to launch an investigation.
The incident allegedly occurred on Feb 7 when the victim was heading towards his hostel room. According to sources, senior students physically assaulted the victim and subjected him to verbal abuse.
The victim’s mother informed Vimsar dean Pradeep Kumar Mohanty about the incident, though no formal written complaint has been filed yet.
“Preliminary findings suggest it was an accidental encounter. Following standard procedure, we convened the anti-ragging committee and formed a sub-committee on Feb 8 to investigate the matter thoroughly,” Mohanty told TOI on Wednesday.
No external physical injuries were visible on the victim. But whether it was a case of ragging or one of student altercation will be clear once the anti-ragging cell submits its report.
