CHENNAI: Terming the BJP a “secret owner” of DMK, TVK leader Vijay on Friday accused BJP-led govt at the Centre of supporting the DMK regime, which he labelled as “corrupt and hypocritical”. He accused the Narendra Modi govt of being prejudiced against Tamil Nadu and its people, while alleging that chief minister M K Stalin was steering a fascist regime, which was no less than the BJP govt.
Vijay said the assembly election in 2026 would be a contest between TVK and DMK. “Victory is certain,” he said, amid loud applause from supporters at the TVK’s first general council meeting held in Chennai.
Addressing Modi directly, the actor accused the DMK of having a secret alliance with BJP for “looting” the state while putting up a pretext of aligning with Congress.
“Why is your (Modi) govt that helps the corrupt and the hypocrites who deceive and scare people in your name, allergic to Tamils and Tamil Nadu?” he said, pointing to “inadequate budget allocation despite prompt GST collection, withholding funds for school children, imposing a three-language policy, and manipulating Lok Sabha seat allocation through delimitation”.
Criticising the Prime Minister’s ‘One Nation, One Election’ proposal as indicative of his broader plan for the country’s future direction, Vijay cautioned Modi about Tamil Nadu’s historical political clout. “Sir, handle Tamil Nadu carefully because it has taught many a lesson,” he said. This was the first time Vijay addressed Modi and Stalin by name, responding to accusations that he was afraid of mentioning the Prime Minister’s name.
Referring to Stalin as the “honourable chief minister of a monarchy”, Vijay hit out at state govt regarding women’s safety and law and order situation. “The atrocities against women and children in the state are unspeakable,” he said, asserting that women would end Stalin’s “politics, rule, and political career.”
Vijay accused the DMK regime of using the Dravidam and Dravida model rhetoric to divert attention from public issues. He promised a TVK-led coalition govt in 2026 would prioritise women’s safety, law and order and expressed confidence that his party’s efforts to bring about political change in the 2026 election would not be thwarted.
Citing Stalin’s recent remarks about chief ministerial aspirations of new political entrants, Vijay wondered why his party was being harassed if its aspirations were deemed insignificant. The DMK created obstacles for his party activities, from rallies to book releases, but his silence stemmed from respect for the law, he said.
