Vigilance: Vigilance detains Lower Suktel project’s chief engineer over DA | Bhubaneswar News
Bhubaneswar: On a day when BJP and BJD locked horns over the Lower Suktel irrigation project in the assembly, sleuths of Odisha vigilance unearthed huge disproportionate assets allegedly amassed by the project’s chief construction engineer, Sunil Kumar Rout, on Thursday.
“During simultaneous searches at several places, we found 34 plots — 5 in Bhubaneswar, 3 in Puri, 19 in Cuttack and 7 in Dhenkanal — registered in the names of Rout and his family members.Besides, he owns two multi-storey buildings in Bhubaneswar, two flats in Puri and some benami vehicles,” a senior vigilance officer said. On Jan 4, former chief minister Naveen Patnaik inaugurated the project in Balangir. Govt spent around Rs 2,723 crore to execute the project.
“We strongly suspect that Rout amassed ill-gotten assets by misappropriating the Lower Suktel project funds. He might have taken undue benefits from contractors,” the officer said.
Vigilance sources said Rout is likely to be arrested on Friday.
