Vig recovers ₹14L from engr’s house

Bhubaneswar: Vigilance sleuths on Sunday seized Rs 14.81 lakh in cash from a junior engineer’s house in Rayagada district during a search operation.
The development comes a day after the engineer, identified as Purna Chandra Choudhary who works in Kahipur block, was caught red-handed while taking a bribe of Rs 25,000 from a gaon sathi, a panchayat level employee who looks after payments to labourer based on measurement of work that is taken by him.Choudhary had demanded money to measure work under MGNREGS for paying the labourers.
“The bribe money has been recovered from Choudhary’s possession. After he was caught red-handed, raid was conducted at his residence. After the house search, he fell sick and was taken to hospital leading to suspension of searches temporarily. Other locations, including his office, are likely to be raided soon,” a vigilance official said.
