Rourkela: Vigilance sleuths on Wednesday recovere Rs 8.37 lakh in cash, around 390 grams of gold, bank and other deposits worth Rs 60.2 lakh, and two high-value plots during searches at properties linked to a deputy forest ranger, a day after he was arrested for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 18,000.Asit Pattanayak (58), deputy ranger of Bisra forest range under Rourkela forest division, was caught on Tuesday while allegedly accepting the bribe from a vehicle owner, Niranjan Sahu. The bribe was reportedly demanded to release pending hire charges for Sahu’s vehicle, which had been used for official work in April, and to ensure its re-engagement in May. The entire bribe amount was recovered from Pattanayak.Following Pattanayak’s arrest, vigilance officers launched simultaneous searches at four locations linked to the deputy ranger — his residence in Rourkela, a flat in Palasuni, Bhubaneswar, his parental house in Mayurbhanj district’s Karanjia, and his office. A case has been registered against Pattanayak under the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018, at Rourkela vigilance police station.
