Bhubaneswar: Vigilance sleuths on Friday conducted simultaneous searches at seven locations reportedly linked to Satya Prakash Swain, former superintendent of Jharpada special jail here, over allegation that he possessed disproportionate assets.
Seven teams, comprising 12 DSPs, 11 inspectors and other support staff, conducted searches in Bhubaneswar, Bhadrak and Keonjhar, armed with search warrants issued by the special judge, vigilance, Bhubaneswar.
Searches were carried out at Swain’s residence in Laxmisagar, parental house at Siddhi Vihar, Khandagiri, house in his native Narsinghpur village in Dhusuri, Bhadrak, govt quarters in Jharpada and Keonjhar, office in Keonjhar jail, and a relative’s house in Jharpada.
Vigilance officers detected a 3,300 sq ft four-storey residence valued at around Rs 1.5 crore in Jharpada and four high-value homestead plots at prime locations in Bhubaneswar, Balangir and Dhenkanal. “The measurement and assessment of the building and plots are being carried out by the vigilance technical wing,” a vigilance statement read.
Officers also found gold ornaments worth Rs 10 lakh, bank and post office deposits worth Rs 6.24 lakh, household articles worth Rs 14.46 lakh, a car and a two-wheeler from Swain’s possession.
Swain joined as assistant jailer in Kuchinda sub-jail in Sambalpurin June 2001. He served as assistant jailer in the district jail, Dhenkanal, and then in Badamba and Choudwar in Cuttack, respectively. Swain was promoted to jailer in June 2008. He was promoted in Mar 2020 to superintendent. In Dec 2021, he became superintendent of Jharpada special jail. He was then superintendent of district jail, Keonjhar, where he retired in June this year.
