Vigilance: Engineer arrested for possessing assets worth over Rs 10 crore | Bhubaneswar News
Bhubaneswar: Sunil Kumar Rout, the chief construction engineer of Lower Suktel project, allegedly possessed assets worth more than Rs 10 crore, the vigilance directorate said after arresting him on Friday. This is 257% more than his known sources of income.
“We have so far found about 1 kg gold and 500 grams of silver ornaments during searches over two days.He owned 34 plots in different parts of Odisha. We also found that he had invested Rs 1.86 crore in various insurance companies. The total deposits in banks assessed so far are over Rs 2.26 crore. Further details of investments made in shares and other financial instruments are being verified,” a senior vigilance officer said.
On the second day of searches on properties linked to Rout, the anti-corruption wing found a 2BHK flat purchased in his wife’s name for about Rs 50 lakh at Mathura in Uttar Pradesh in March this year.
Rout (55), who joined govt service in 1991, currently draws a salary of around Rs 2.2 lakh per month. He was posted in the lower Suktel irrigation project about a year back.
Enumeration of assets in his farmhouse spread over 8 acres at Saptasajya in Dhenkanal district was carried out on Friday. A two-storeyed residential building had been constructed in the farmhouse, which also has a poultry farm and dairy unit.
