Vig Finds ₹46l Cash, Gold From Properties ‘linked’ To Engineer | Bhubaneswar News



Bhubaneswar: Vigilance officers on Friday recovered Rs 46.45 lakh cash and 510 gm gold jewellery while searching 11 properties allegedly linked to chief construction engineer of rural works circle, Balasore, N V Harihara Rao.
They also found bank deposits of Rs 2.1 crore, Rs 1.32 crore investments in stock or mutual funds and movable and immovable properties during the raid.
Rao came under the vigilance radar for the alleged possession of disproportionate assets (DA) beyond known sources of income. There were allegations of Rao taking commission to clear the contracts for many govt projects.
Key findings of vigilance include a double-storied building in Berhampur, a building in Bhubaneswar and a 3 BHK flat in Berhampur. Besides, two suspected benami flats — one in Bhubaneswar and another in Berhampur — are under investigation to verify the ownership.
The raids are being carried out by 11 DSPs, seven inspectors, 11 assistant sub-inspectors (ASIs) and supporting staff after special judge, vigilance, Bhubaneswar, issued the warrant.
The raids are taking place in Bhubaneswar, Berhampur, Balasore, Keonjhar and Phulbani on his properties as well as the properties of his relatives and associates in Berhampur and Keonjhar.
The Rs 46.45 lakh cash was seized from the house of his brother-in-law, who is a govt doctor in Berhampur jail. The sleuths will open one locker in the name of Rao’s spouse at SBI, Berhampur and find out about other deposits and investments of Rao.
