Vibrant Independence Day Merchandise in Patna Shops | Patna News – Times of India

Shops bustle with vibrant array of items in city

Patna: Ahead of Independence Day, city shops are bustling with a vibrant array of items, especially those designed for schoolchildren to wear and carry during celebrations. Sweet shops, too, are preparing for the anticipated demand for jalebis, usually ordered by schools and offices to distribute among students and staff.
As far as wearable items are concerned, a striking selection of tricolour wristbands and hairbands is on display, highly popular among youngsters for both Independence and Republic Day.Badges, available in various designs and shapes, are also on offer for both children and adults.
“Wrist and hair bands are exclusively popular among youngsters, but badges are bought by elders too for the event,” said Satish, a shopkeeper. “The items are comfortably priced, starting from Rs 5-10 per piece with variations depending on size and quality. However, we have not received good customers so far. Hoping the schoolchildren may turn up with their parents on the eve of Independence Day,” he added.
Meanwhile, khadi flag sellers are struggling against the competition from cheaper polyester alternatives. “The polyester tricolor sold at nominal prices has eaten up our business. Independence Day and the freedom struggle are, in a way, synonymous with khadi and only khadi flags should be promoted by the govt bodies on the occasion,” said Sanjay Jha, manager of Nalanda Khadi Gramodyog in Patna. Khadi flags range from Rs 120 to Rs 400 with smaller car flags priced at Rs 15 each.
Sweet shops are also experiencing slower business, awaiting orders from schools and offices. “We mainly receive orders for jalebis from schools and very few offices also place orders for the sweet sometimes,” said Pramod Sinha, manager of a sweet shop in Kankarbagh. He said no significant orders had been received yet. Pure ghee jalebi is priced at Rs 500/kg at the store.
