Veteran CPM leader’s family members donate his body to MKCG | Bhubaneswar News

Berhampur: In a noble gesture, the family of veteran CPM member Jagannath Mishra (73) donated his body to MKCG Medical College here for medical research and education on Monday, a day after he passed away.
Mishra, former general secretary of Odisha Krushak Sabha (CPM farmer wing) and ex-secretary of CPM’s Ganjam unit, died of kidney ailments while undergoing treatment at MKCG Medical College and Hospital.
Prior to donating his body, the family also donated his eyes to the college’s ophthalmology department, potentially benefiting two visually-impaired persons. “The donated body will significantly contribute to studies and research,” said Dr Sagar Prusty, head of the anatomy department.
Debabala, Mishra’s daughter, said that her father had previously pledged to donate his body for medical research. “Despite our grief, we’re proud that his contribution will benefit many medical students,” said R K Mishra, the deceased’s nephew.
This is the first body donated to MKCG Medical College this year and the 30th in the past 12 years, with 23 donations recorded in the last 7 years alone. The institution also supplies cadavers to SRM Medical College in Bhawanipatna, Kalahandi. It provided three bodies last year and three more this year.

This marks the first body donation to MKCG Medical College this year and the 30th in the past 12 years, with 23 donations recorded in the last seven years alone.
