I was also the director of ‘Astaraga’ — the first film casting Uttam and Aparajita. They are a family, and I am so pained and disturbed by his demise. As an actor, he was a versatile genius and a director’s boy. Very disciplined and dedicated. He was not only a great actor but a wonderful human with a golden heart. He was brilliant in all his films, but ‘Danda Balunga’ and ‘Bhakta Salabega’ were his best.”
Veteran comic actor Jayiram Samal said, “He was my younger brother. There was no Odia film I remember doing without him. The Odia film industry has received a major setback with Uttam’s death. The legacy Uttam left behind needs to be carried forward.”
