Bengaluru: A 32-year-old undertrial prisoner admitted for health concerns has fled from Victoria Hospital late Saturday evening. The escapee, Chandrashekar, was previously detained for multiple robbery offences and was last apprehended by Subramanyapura police.
Police reports indicate Chandrashekar was transported to Victoria Hospital on May 2. Though intended for placement in the dedicated prisoners’ ward, following care at the trauma and emergency centre, he was instead housed in the general ward.

Despite having leg restraints applied by the police guards, Chandrashekar managed to unfasten the cuffs and abscond from the facility around 11pm.
Initial findings suggest the assigned guards were absent from their posts when Chandrashekar made his escape. The VV Puram police have registered a case based on a complaint from prison authorities.
“We have opened an investigation and are examining CCTV footage from the hospital premises and surrounding areas. We are also questioning hospital staff and the security personnel regarding the incident,” a senior officer stated.
